Remnant 2: The Dark Horizon DLC Review – A Solid 7/10

After sinking a good amount of time into The Dark Horizon, I have some mixed feelings. Did I get my money’s worth out of the DLC? Sure. But it definitely had aspects that left me feeling under whelmed, especially compared to what the base game and previous DLCs delivered. The biggest drawback for me was the level design, which felt more like a missed opportunity than an evolution.

The glider mechanic, while cool at first, quickly lost its charm. It felt like it pulled away from the immersion that Remnant 2 excelled at. Instead of engaging in combat or exploration, I spent what felt like most of my time gliding from one platform to the next. Sure, it’s visually impressive, but it became repetitive and, frankly, a chore. The constant reliance on gliders dominates the experience and took me out of the intense, grounded feel of the main game.

In terms of pacing, the DLC also drags because of this. What could have been a more fluid experience gets bogged down by the traversal mechanics. And the dungeons? They were a bit lackluster, honestly. They didn’t have the same creativity or tension that I was hoping for. Some of the bosses left me wanting more, too. They weren’t bad, but they didn’t deliver the satisfying, high-stakes battles I’ve come to expect from Remnant 2. It felt like they could’ve pushed the envelope more but didn’t quite get there.

One of the bigger letdowns was the lack of new weapons. For a DLC of this scope, I was expecting more variety in the arsenal. I was really hoping to see some fresh weapons shake up the combat, but the selection felt pretty limited. The few additions were fine, but not enough to make a real impact or change the way I approached the game. For a final DLC, that’s a big miss for me. I wanted something that would make me go, "Wow, this changes everything!"

The design choices and missed opportunities brought the DLC down a notch for me. What could have easily been an 9/10 experience drops to a 7/10, mostly because the level design, boss fights, and lack of new weapons just don’t live up to the expectations set by the base game. Instead of feeling like a necessary addition, The Dark Horizon almost feels tacked on. It's a shame because it detracts from the immersive, intense combat that Remnant 2 is known for.

That’s not to say the entire DLC is a bust. There are still some highlights. The atmosphere is suitably dark and foreboding, and the Warden class is a solid addition to the roster. But again, the reliance on gliders, lackluster dungeons, and bosses that didn’t quite hit the mark brought down the overall enjoyment.

The worst part? It’s the last DLC for the game, and it went out with more of a whimper than a bang. I expected more, especially considering how much love I had for the base game. I think I’ve spent all the time I want to on The Dark Horizon, and I’m okay with moving on. It's disappointing that such a great game like Remnant 2 didn't close out its DLC journey on a high note.

I’ll still give the Boss Rush mode a shot because that looks promising, but as for the main content of this DLC, I think I’ve had my fill.

In summary: cool concepts, but not entirely needed, and certainly not the high note I was hoping for. If you’re a completionist or a die-hard fan, it’s worth checking out. But for me, The Dark Horizon just missed the mark.
